Lefkada is known for its chalk limestone cliffs surrounded by a ridiculously hued turquoise sea. It’s a mid-size island that’s connected to mainland Greece via bridge, and the other Ionian islands via local ferry. Like most popular Greek islands, it has its fair share of resorts, but the west coast of the island is less touristy. Most of the resorts are on the east side. The south side of the island is a wind and kitesurfing destination. There are monasteries, museums, wineries, castles and ancient ruins, but Lefkada is mostly known for its gorgeous beaches.
